Delhi-Mumbai rail route targets 160 kmph train operations, 12-hour journey under Mission Raftaar

Indian Railways is enhancing the Delhi-Mumbai rail route to enable high-speed train operations under the Mission Raftaar initiative, aiming to cut journey time between the two cities to around 12 hours. The Palwal-Mathura section, spanning 84 Route Kilometres and 336 Track Kilometres, is being upgraded to support speeds of up to 160 kmph.

This upgrade involves multiple infrastructure improvements, including traction, overhead equipment, signalling, yards, and signalling systems. Dr. Shivam Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Central Railway, reported on the recent charging of the new 2x25 kV Chhata Traction Substation in the Agra Division on September 7 as part of the Palwal-Mathura upgrade.

Other key works include the installation of Super Masts and Auxiliary Earth Conductors, upgrading power supply systems, and signalling and telecommunications. The Mathura-Bhuteshwar section is also progressing, with a focus on completing auxiliary earth conductor work, mast erection, and station-area commissioning. SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) integration is another crucial aspect, enabling remote monitoring and control of the power supply network.

Once all infrastructure upgrades are completed, high-speed trials are expected to commence, potentially reducing the Delhi-Mumbai journey time to under 12 hours for passengers.
