Court orders INEC to recognise, use NDC logo for all elections

A Federal High Court in Abuja has mandated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to acknowledge and utilize the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) modified digital logo for all elections they conduct. The NDC's National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced the ruling in a statement on Thursday. The court also prohibited INEC from obstructing or influencing the NDC's utilization of its symbol, the "two-finger" victory sign, as the party's official emblem.

The decision came after the NDC filed a suit against INEC for allegedly removing their updated logo from their database and substituting it with the older association logo under which the party was originally registered. The NDC's National Executive Committee approved the modified logo on March 25, 2026, and informed INEC. However, the commission initially uploaded the new logo, but later removed it and reinstated the old association logo without providing a legitimate explanation to the party.

The NDC had tried to address the issue administratively but turned to legal action after INEC did not make the necessary changes. In his judgment, Justice Abdulmalik directed INEC to confirm the modified logo, including the symbol and colors, as the party's official emblem for all uses, including elections. The court also issued a perpetual injunction prohibiting INEC from interfering with the NDC's application of the digitally designed "two-finger" victory sign.

In response to the ruling, Director declared that the decision had settled the disagreement over the logo, and instructed candidates and party members to immediately adopt the approved symbol on campaign materials and other NDC paraphernalia.
