2027: Anambra senator urges INEC to end reliance on ad hoc staff

Victor Umeh, the re-election seeking senator for Anambra Central, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to hire and train more permanent staff to manage electoral duties and reduce its dependence on temporary personnel ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking to Channels Television’s Politics Today, Umeh, who is a candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, warned that moving electoral personnel from one state to another at authorities’ behest could damage public trust in the electoral process.

Umeh alleged that during previous elections, some ad hoc staff were brought in to serve the interests of powerful individuals in various locations. He emphasized that INEC should utilize its current recruitment efforts to increase permanent staff and phase out temporary workers.
