Brics summit: AAP targets Centre over ‘hiding’ Delhi slums, takes GDP dig

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticized the Indian Centre for allegedly concealing slum areas and impoverished neighborhoods before major international gatherings, including the upcoming 18th Brics Summit. The opposition party shared a cartoon on social media platform X that depicted a mirror marked "Vision 2047," with one side showing a developed Delhi and Bharat Mandapam, while the other side revealed the slums, garbage, and makeshift homes not covered by any curtain.

AAP tweeted, "Covering slums with curtains won’t change the reality, just like calling 2.6% GDP Growth 7.8%."

Delhi is set to host the Brics Summit on September 12 and 13, with representatives from the expanded Brics group traveling to the capital city. The event has faced criticism in the past due to the practice of erecting screens, green covers, or other structures to conceal slums and unauthorized settlements along key roads. The Brics Summit is scheduled to begin tomorrow, with a closed-door meeting of member countries at 2:35 pm.

Later, leaders will visit the Bharat Innovates Exhibition at 4:25 pm, participate in the official family photograph at 5:05 pm, and engage in a joint tree-planting ceremony.
