Bhayandar: Narendra Mehta’s School Withdraws Controversial Paryushan Food Circular After Backlash

Bhayandar, September 10, 2026 - Seven Square Academy, a CBSE school managed by a trust linked to BJP MLA Narendra Mehta, has withdrawn a controversial circular that instructed students to refrain from bringing onion, garlic, potato, beetroot and similar vegetables during the Jain Paryushan festival.

The circular, posted on the school's online platform, provoked fierce backlash from parents, political parties and social organizations. The school had also announced these food items would not be served at its cafeteria during the Paryushan period.

The controversy escalated on Thursday when MNS Thane district president Avinash Jadhav paid a visit to the school and threatened a protest if the circular was not rescinded within 24 hours. Additionally, the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti announced it would pursue legal action to revoke the school's recognition.

Political opposition mounted as well. State transport minister Pratap Sarnaik criticized Mehta, alleging hypocrisy. Sarnaik questioned whether similar food restrictions existed at Mehta's clubs and hotels, and remarked on the BJP's observance of Hindu fasting days.

Following the widespread criticism, the school removed the circular from its website late Thursday evening. Both the MNS and Marathi Ekikaran Samiti expressed satisfaction with the decision. Meanwhile, Mehta attempted to clarify that the circular was merely an appeal to students and was not intended to be compulsory.
