Apple's $1,999 gamble — analysts react to the new iPhone Duo foldable

At Apple's September 9 launch event, the star attraction was undoubtedly the new iPhone Duo, a foldable phone that analysts see as a significant development in the iPhone lineup. IDC senior research director Nabila Popal was almost certain the device would win over even the biggest critics of foldable phones.

The iPhone Duo, set to release on October 23, offers a passport-sized design that unfolds to reveal a 7.6-inch main display, setting itself apart from other foldable phones on the market. The device boasts a powerful A20 Pro system-on-chip, iOS 27 software support, a titanium frame, and Ceramic Shield 2 for protection. Apple has also optimized apps like Netflix, Zoom, and Slack for the Duo's unique design, making the device more user-friendly.

Despite being late to the market compared to Samsung and Google, Apple's first generation of foldables has received praise for its design, durability, and software improvements. However, the price point of $1,999 remains a concern for potential buyers, with some suggesting that financing and carrier incentives could help make the device more accessible.
