Another gridlock hits Ifaki-Ayegbaju road as fallen tanker blocks traffic

Another gridlock has emerged on the Ifaki-Ayegbaju road in Ekiti State's Oye Local Government Area, due to a fallen tanker creating a significant roadblock. This impasse has left commuters and motorists stranded, severely impacting economic activities in the region. Daily Post reports that the tanker overturned on Wednesday evening, resulting in a major obstruction that remains in place as of now, compelling drivers to seek alternate routes.

Consequently, vehicles traveling from Ado-Ekiti must now navigate through Iworoko, Afao, Ire, and Ilupeju to reach Oye-Ayegbaju, extending the journey and causing additional stress for commuters. This situation has also affected part-time students at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), who have had to endure lengthy detours while commuting to Ayegbaju for exams.

Comrade Sesan Akilo, President of Oye Local Government Forum, has appealed to the Federal Government to swiftly address the road's rehabilitation, citing its poor condition as a major cause of frequent accidents and vehicle overturns along this route. Akilo emphasizes that the continuous road crisis is not only causing inconvenience for commuters but also severely impacting commerce in Ayegbaju and neighboring communities.

He urges authorities to take immediate action before the situation deteriorates further. Motorists have also pleaded with the Ekiti State Government to assist in removing the fallen tanker and clearing the obstruction to resume normal traffic flow. They lament that the ongoing difficulties faced while traversing the route are adversely affecting their businesses and transportation operations.

This latest gridlock follows a similar traffic crisis that paralyzed movement along the same road just two weeks ago, with motorists and commuters being stranded for nearly a week before government intervention restored traffic. As a result, residents and motorists are demanding urgent intervention from both the Federal and Ekiti State Governments to clear the roadblock and commence the much-needed rehabilitation of the road.

They warn that if the authorities fail to act, the likelihood of further gridlocks, economic losses, and increased hardships for commuters will only increase.
