AMA supplies emergency water to Chemuenaa, plans two boreholes over shortage

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has supplied emergency water to Chemuenaa residents in Ablekuma South Sub-Metropolitan District, addressing ongoing water access challenges. AMA's intervention, led by Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey, aims to provide temporary relief until two boreholes are drilled to offer a more sustainable solution.

The decision to supply water emerged after Mayor Allotey assured residents during a Community Dialogue on Social Protection and Social Issues at Saban Park, Chemuenaa Last Stop, on September 8, 2026. At the meeting, residents expressed their struggles with water scarcity, prompting Mayor Allotey to announce plans for the boreholes.

He subsequently invited community leaders and residents to suggest ideal locations for the facilities. The proposed boreholes are anticipated to provide a more dependable water source for residents, alleviating the difficulties associated with accessing the essential resource. In the meantime, the emergency water supply serves as a temporary measure while efforts toward the permanent solution progress.

The community dialogue also served as part of the Ministry’s National Social Protection program, enabling government officials and residents to discuss social protection interventions and challenges affecting communities at the grassroots level. The event also provided residents of Chemuenaa with a chance to voice other concerns directly to government officials and explore potential interventions.
