Action ordered against PIA, ASF staff for misbehaving with lawmakers

The Senate Rules of Procedure and Privileges Committee has ordered disciplinary action against staff from Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and the Airport Security Force (ASF) for allegedly misbehaving with lawmakers. The committee, chaired by Senator Syed Waqar Mehdi, examined three privilege motions related to the misconduct.

One motion, moved by Senator Bilal Ahmed Khan Mandokhail, concerned a PIA cabin crew member's alleged improper behavior on flight PK-326 from Quetta to Islamabad on February 7, 2026. Despite previous recommendations for the staff member to apologize, Mandokhail demanded disciplinary action, including potential dismissal. Committee Chairman Mehdi expressed concern over the staff's conduct, citing a recent social media report of alleged cigarette smuggling at Multan Airport.

He emphasized that such behavior tarnishes PIA's reputation and called for strict disciplinary measures.

Another motion, tabled by Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, dealt with ASF officials allegedly misbehaving during check-in for Emirates flight EK-601 on July 24, 2026. Zehri recounted an incident where an ASF official searched her hand-carry bag and questioned her about the cash she was carrying. She claimed she offered to count foreign currency in a side office as per procedure, but the official opened her bag at a desk where three other bags were already being inspected.

Zehri demanded proper training for ASF personnel in dealing with the public and vowed to hold the responsible officer accountable. The committee agreed to complete the inquiry within 15 days and have the officer responsible appear before the next meeting.
