49ers latest injury update on Jake Tonges after exiting Rams game

The San Francisco 49ers have suffered multiple injury setbacks during their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams. Rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling was ruled out with an ankle injury earlier in the second quarter. Tight end Jake Tonges also exited the game after suffering an apparent leg injury. Tonges, who had not been targeted before leaving, was taken to the medical tent and has not been targeted since.

Tonges entered the season as a key backup to starting tight end George Kittle, but Kittle returned from a previous Achilles injury. The 49ers had invested resources in developing Tonges, as he signed a two-year, $8 million contract last March. Tonges had previously overcome a plantar fascia injury during the team's playoff loss to Seattle in January.

The combination of Stribling and Tonges' injuries leaves the 49ers with less experienced tight end depth, with Kittle becoming even more crucial to the team's offense.
