2026/27 GHPL MD2 preview: Kotoko clash with Heart of Lions as Gold Stars host Hearts of Oak

Accra Hearts of Oak will seek to secure a second consecutive win in the Ghana Premier League as they visit Gold Stars at Bibiani Dun’s Park on Sunday. Previous encounters between the two teams have produced intense matches, with one-sided victories being rare; aside from a 1-0 win for Hearts in 2021/22 and a 2-1 victory for the home side last season, matches have typically ended in 1-1 draws.

The Phobians are entering the match buoyed by their outstanding start to the season, which began with a dominant 4-0 triumph over Berekum Chelsea at the University of Ghana Stadium. Hearts coach Nebojsa Kapor is aware that this match will not be a cakewalk, as he quickly shifted focus from the opening-day victory against Berekum Chelsea to preparing for Sunday's game.

Kapor believes his players will rediscover their scoring touch and manage to overcome the challenging Dun’s Park ground. Opposing tactician Petros Koukouras, who suffered a 1-0 loss to Bechem United in his first game, aims to rectify that mistake with a home victory to satisfy his supporters. Kumasi Asante Kotoko will host Kpando Heart of Lions in a fixture known as a "revenge game," as Kotoko suffered a 3-1 defeat last season.

Asante Kotoko has declared Sunday "The Red Day," encouraging fans to wear red jerseys to energize the team for victory. Historically, Kotoko has only managed one win over Dzi Woa Nu, while the latter side has won four matches and three have ended in draws. This record adds to the challenge for the Porcupine Warriors ahead of the clash.
