2 men arrested at airport hours after allegedly breaking in to MTR depot to graffiti trains

Two men in their 30s were arrested at Hong Kong International Airport hours after allegedly breaking into an MTR depot to spray-paint graffiti on a train, according to police. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when staff at the Chai Wan MTR depot reported that a train had been graffitied with two murals, each measuring one metre by five metres, and that two suspicious men had fled the scene.

Police found that a section of barbed wire around the depot had been damaged and discovered tools believed to have been left by the suspects, including nine spray paint cans, a wooden ladder, and two high-visibility vests. The two men were later found at the airport while waiting to board flights to the US and Australia. Chief Inspector Chan Chi-leung of the Hong Kong Police Force emphasized the critical nature of the MTR depot as infrastructure and the seriousness of the crime, noting that criminal damage is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
