Wanita Umno draws 5 red lines for political cooperation

Umno's female wing, Wanita Umno, has outlined five key principles that any political cooperation must adhere to, according to their chief, Noraini Ahmad. Speaking at the wing's general assembly, Noraini emphasized that Umno's core identity should not be sacrificed in any form of political alliance.

The first red line, she stated, is not to compromise the foundation of the struggle that Umno has fought for. Secondly, Umno's dignity should not be put up for sale. The third principle is to safeguard national stability, which Umno has fought for. Fourth, Wanita Umno warns against sidelining Malaysia's diverse society. Finally, the fifth red line is to never relinquish the voice of grassroots members.

Noraini made it clear that Umno can cooperate with any political party, but the cooperation must not come at the expense of Umno's identity. She reiterated that Umno can be friends with anyone, but it must always know who it is. Noraini assured that Umno can participate in coalition governments without losing its voice in government.

Cooperation should not erode Umno's identity, and yet, this identity must not be used as an excuse to reject any form of cooperation. Noraini stressed that Umno joined the unity government for national stability and the people's interests, but it must continue to build its own strength. She emphasized that if Umno is important enough to be included in a government, it must also be crucial when decisions affecting people's lives are made.

Wanita Umno understands the concept of compromise, but Noraini warned that excessive concessions could lead people to believe that the party has no independent position. She concluded by saying that while it's possible to sit at the same table, Umno's seats and voice must not shrink away.
