U.S. President Donald Trump has promised to reward every adult American with $5,000 (currently €4,300) if his party wins the upcoming congressional elections, according to the wire account. Speaking at a Republican party convention in Dallas, Texas, Trump declared, "If the Republicans win, you win with us and get $5,000," calling it the "Trump Dividend."

The proposed reward would cost more than $1 trillion, roughly the entire U.S. defense budget, assuming more than 245 million eligible voters. The cost would be far beyond the financial and political feasibility of Congress. The idea of direct payments to U.S. citizens is not new, as Trump had proposed a $2,000 direct payment last year but did not pursue it further.

The funds were intended to involve Americans in U.S. customs revenues, excluding higher earners. The Republican-controlled party faces potential losses in the upcoming November elections, with about one-third of Senate seats and the entire House up for grabs, given the slim majority in the House. Trump justified the $5,000 promise with the U.S. economy's robust performance, likening the payout to a share in company profits, provided the money is spent within the country.

However, unlike regular dividend payouts by companies, the U.S. government is far from frugal, with a massive budget deficit and a debt exceeding $40 trillion.
