UMNO AGM | Zahid says unaware if more charges coming over TH; Umno 'hoping for the best' with Najib pardon

The Federal Kuala Lumpur-based Waqf Institution is expected to consider Najib Razak's new petition for forgiveness tomorrow. President of Umno Zahid Hamidi has relinquished final decision-making power regarding Najib Razak's fate to the wisdom of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, ahead of the Waqf Institution's meeting tomorrow. It is anticipated that the best outcome will be determined by the benevolence and discernment of the Tuanku, who will announce the final, irrevocable decision, according to Zahid after launching Book 13 Sun Tzu Propaganda at the Umno Grand Assembly 2026.

Najib, 72, who was Prime Minister from 2009 to 2018, was charged with embezzling RM42 million from SRC International six years ago. He was fined RM210 million and sentenced to 12 years in prison, serving his sentence at Kajang Prison since August 23, 2022. However, the Federal Kuala Lumpur-based Waqf Institution is expected to reduce his prison sentence to six years and fine him RM50 million.

The Waqf Institution is anticipated to consider Najib's petition for a second time on Friday. Najib remains involved in several ongoing criminal and civil 1MDB and SRC-related proceedings, in addition to bankruptcy proceedings related to RM1.69 billion in tax arrears.
