Take wider action to eradicate stray dog problem, govt told

Putrajaya MP Radzi Jidin has urged the Malaysian government to adopt broader measures to eradicate the stray dog problem in the country. He emphasized that merely conducting ad hoc stray-catching operations is insufficient without a comprehensive plan. Radzi pointed to a recent incident where a two-year-old girl was attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Batu Pahat, Johor, highlighting the urgent need for action.

He stressed that Malaysia cannot continue to tackle the issue through isolated efforts and that an integrated action plan involving all relevant government agencies is necessary. This plan should include amending laws and regulations, ensuring compliance through monitoring, and beginning with Putrajaya, which has a lower population of stray dogs compared to other urban areas.

Radzi, who lived in Australia for nearly two decades, noted that he did not witness any stray dogs there due to the stringent laws, high public awareness, and strict licensing requirements. He suggested that these measures could help the government achieve a stray-free city in Malaysia within a few years.
