UCL: Galatasaray coach slams referee after Champions League defeat

Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk harshly criticized the referee following his team's 3-1 Champions League loss to Sporting CP in Lisbon. Buruk contended that crucial decisions influenced the outcome of the match. Sporting staged a remarkable comeback, equalizing with a penalty in the second half after Luis Suárez scored for Galatasaray.

Despite dominating possession, Galatasaray conceded an equalizer from one of Sporting's few attacks. Buruk questioned the penalty awarded to Sporting, particularly in a high-level competition, deeming it "simply not acceptable." He also criticized the Norwegian referee, recalling a previous incident with him in Istanbul. Buruk believed a red card he felt should have been shown in the first half and the penalty awarded to Sporting directly affected the result.

The red card had a significant psychological impact on his players, exacerbating their drop in confidence after trailing 2-1. Nevertheless, Sporting secured a 3-1 victory to kick off their Champions League campaign with three points.
