TVK announces candidates for Dharapuram, Madurantakam by-polls

The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) recently announced its candidates for the upcoming by-polls in Dharapuram and Madurantakam assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu. The party, led by C Joseph Vijay, declared K Maragatham Kumaravel as its candidate for the Madurantakam SC assembly constituency and P Sathyabama, TVK's Tiruppur south-east district secretary, as its nominee for the Dharapuram SC seat.

Vijay urged his party members to strive for a significant victory for these two candidates in the forthcoming elections. The TVK, which secured 108 seats out of 234 in the April 23 Assembly polls in Tamil Nadu, formed a coalition with the Congress, Indian Union Muslim League, and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) after the post-poll alliance was formally adopted by the party leaders in a coordination committee meeting.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set the by-polls for the two assembly segments for October 6, with the results expected to be declared on October 9, 2026. These by-elections were triggered by the resignation of the two MLAs, Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama, who had won their respective seats under the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) ticket during the April 23 assembly polls.
