White House advisers, including Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have reportedly warned President Donald Trump that the ongoing conflict with Iran could continue throughout his remaining term in office, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. The White House has not commented on the matter. The advisers informed Trump in private meetings in the Oval Office and the Situation Room that Iran may persist in its resistance to US pressure, potentially prolonging the conflict beyond the scheduled inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on January 20, 2029.

This warning contradicts Trump's public statements about the war, where he asserted that the conflict would end immediately following the November 2022 US midterm elections, claiming that Iran was attempting to influence the vote but would eventually be unable to sustain its opposition. While Trump acknowledged that diplomatic talks were still a possibility, he did not consider them a preferred course of action.
