Three nabbed after driver evades police in Mong Kok

Three individuals were apprehended following an incident in Mong Kok where a private car eluded police in pursuit and collided with several other vehicles. The driver, a 29-year-old man, along with his girlfriend and another passenger, were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. Chief Inspector Chan Chi-wa disclosed that the driver was allegedly delivering drugs to the passenger.

When officers observed the driver using his phone in violation of regulations, he fled the scene by disregarding multiple red lights and causing a crash. The officer and a female passenger, whose car was struck, sustained injuries but recovered at the hospital. The runaway vehicle was discovered abandoned in Hung Hom, where police recovered two tablets of Viagra, classified as a Part 1 poison.

The driver was eventually apprehended at a Kwun Tong hotel room on Wednesday and faces charges including furious driving, driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, drug trafficking, and possession of a Part 1 poison. His 19-year-old girlfriend, a two-way permit holder, was arrested at the same location on suspicion of aiding an offender.

The third suspect, a 46-year-old man believed to be the drugs buyer, was detained in Mong Kok on Tuesday for drug trafficking and has since been released on bail. Chan emphasized that the investigation would delve into the driver's mental state, potential drug or medication influence, and any other criminal activities he may be involved in. Both suspects will appear in Kowloon City Magistrates' Court on Friday.
