Bhiwandi Traffic Crawls As Potholes, Bottlenecks Turn Short Trips Into Hours

Bhiwandi, a burgeoning logistics hub, now grapples with traffic congestion that transforms short commutes into lengthy affairs. Major roadways such as Anjurphata, Mankoli, Pimplas, Kalyan Road, and Rajnoli Naka experience daily traffic jams at peak hours. Rapid growth in truck and container traffic has outpaced the city's road infrastructure, leading to deteriorating road conditions.

Potholes, narrow stretches, incomplete flyovers, and ongoing construction compound the issue. Morning and evening rush hours exacerbate the congestion, affecting commuters, students, traders, and transport operators. Bhiwandi Municipal Corporation's City Engineer Jameel Patel confirms that pothole repair work will commence soon, following the recent heavy rains that exacerbated the problem.

The Anjurphata bottleneck, caused by road narrowing and incomplete flyovers, remains a persistent issue. Warehousing expansion along the Bhiwandi-Thane Road has further intensified vehicular movement, with heavy vehicles operating around the clock and stopping or slowing near warehouses, leading to queue buildup. The incomplete Pimplas flyover on the Mumbai-Nashik Highway adds to the traffic chaos, forcing vehicles to slow down and cause cascading gridlock.

Rajnoli Naka, a junction where Nashik, Kalyan, Thane, and Bhiwandi vehicles converge, continues to experience severe congestion despite the presence of traffic police. Residents and motorists argue that the rapid rise in warehouses and heavy vehicles has outpaced road development, and demand for alternative routes, road widening, and effective traffic planning to alleviate the ongoing congestion.
