Suspected gunman in Thailand kindergarten shooting surrenders after 18-hour standoff

A police officer in eastern Thailand, Tatsapong Tongthat, surrendered to authorities after a 18-hour standoff following a shooting at the Nongplalai Municipal Kindergarten. The incident occurred around 150 kilometers southeast of Bangkok, where Tongthat allegedly killed his wife, a teacher at the school. 44 students were unharmed and safely evacuated, with classes suspended for safety until Friday.

Thailand, despite having relatively restrictive gun laws, has a high rate of gun ownership and has seen a rise in high-profile attacks in recent years. The nation's government has ordered a review of firearm regulations, including suspending new permits to purchase firearms and reviewing existing ones.
