Qatar, Hong Kong explore stronger trade ties at Belt and Road Summit

Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Sayed, participated in the 11th Belt and Road Summit in Hong Kong to explore potential expansion of trade and investment ties with the territory and other Asian markets. The summit, hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, aimed to promote high-quality development and sustainable growth through enhanced economic cooperation among governments, businesses and international organizations.

Dr Al-Sayed highlighted the significant potential for Qatar and Hong Kong to deepen economic collaboration and access new markets, noting Hong Kong's strategic role as a major global hub for trade, investment, financial services and logistics. The minister stressed the importance of bilateral trade between the two sides, which reached around $1.7 billion over the past four years.

He advocated for greater commercial and investment exchanges through trade exhibitions and fairs, as well as encouraging Hong Kong companies to take advantage of Qatar's competitive environment, free zones and incentives. Dr Al-Sayed met with Hong Kong officials, including Chief Executive John Lee, and engaged in bilateral discussions with leaders from various Asian countries, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

These meetings aimed to explore opportunities for enhancing cooperation in diverse fields and strengthening economic, trade and investment partnerships between Qatar and the participating nations.
