Qatar Airways expands global network, to serve over 170 destinations

Qatar Airways plans to expand its global network to serve more than 170 destinations during the 2026-2027 winter season, the airline announced. The carrier's Media Open Day provided a detailed tour of Hamad International Airport's facilities, showcasing the services available and the roles of various departments. Qatar Airways anticipates around 4 million passengers during the winter season, with an average of over 510 daily flights.

In the first seven months of 2026, the airline handled 9.4 million departing passenger journeys and welcomed 74,000 passengers using self-service bag drop. Fast Pass biometric technology enrollment has reached approximately 27,000 passengers, enhancing the airport experience. Hamad International Airport operates as a single expansive terminal with five concourses (A, B, C, D, E), accommodating 62 contact gates, over 6 million annual passengers, and 138 check-in counters.

The 845,000 square meter passenger terminal features a 6,000 square meter Orchard indoor tropical garden. During the visit, officials discussed the airline's Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility, which houses 80 spare engines and maintains a controlled environment to support the fleet. The airline's Flight Operations and Integrated Operations Centre, led by various senior officers, provided insights into the complex coordination required to deliver world-class performance across the carrier's expansive global network.
