Professor Appointments Pending For GMC Super-Speciality Units In Bhopal

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: The government's plan to establish neonatal neurology and cardiac super-speciality units at Hamidia Hospital, tied to Gandhi Medical College (GMC), remains on hold due to recruitment obstacles. The initiative, part of expanding the hospital to 3,000 beds, has yet to see the appointment of professors for these specialized wings.

While other departments have seen promotions continue, no appointments have been made for the super-specialities. The Directorate of Medical Education (DME) imposed a ban after the MP Medical Teachers Association objected to the direct recruitment of associate professors and professors. The High Court overturned the recruitment process for GMC medical faculty, deeming the conversion of promotional posts to direct hiring illegal.

The court found the college management had not adhered to rules mandating specialized professorial roles, like neonatal neurology and cardiac super-specialities, to be filled through proper promotional assessments rather than internal promotions. MP Medical Teachers Association president Dr Rakesh Malviya stated, "Very soon it will be announced as the entire process is in the final stage," despite a ban on direct recruitment for super-speciality positions at GMC.
