Pisa 2025: Murid Malaysia upaya bangkit, terserlah potensi untuk berkembang

PISA 2025 results reveal Malaysia's students possess the capability to rise and adapt when given proper support, according to Rusmini Ku Ahmad, Deputy Director-General of Education (Primary and Curriculum Sector) in Malaysia. The data indicates an upward trend in the average achievement scores of Malaysian students in the Science and Reading domains after the Covid-19 pandemic, and a potential for further growth.

Malaysia ranked among six countries that exceeded expectations in Computational Problem Solving, scoring 484, just 16 points below the OECD average. The findings emphasize the importance of empowering students to not only use technology but also develop critical thinking skills to understand, create, and solve problems in an increasingly tech-driven world.

Rusmini highlighted the strong stance of Malaysian students towards seeking help and readiness for learning, which are the highest and third-highest, respectively. Moreover, the achievement gap between Malaysian schools is smaller than the international average in reading, math, and science domains. However, the mathematics domain saw a decline from 409 in 2022 to 397.

To improve this situation, the Ministry of Education is focusing on foundational knowledge, quality teaching, and teacher competencies through the Mathematics Education Transformation Plan 2026-2035. Issues such as cyberbullying, digital literacy, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence are also crucial in today's education, as modern education goes beyond just building academic knowledge.

The ultimate goal is to see Malaysian students grow in terms of knowledge, confidence, critical thinking, and their ability to build the future.
