Pakistan Approves Rs. 5.7 Billion Sports Upgrade Ahead of SAF Games

The Pakistan government has greenlit a substantial Rs. 5.7 billion investment package to enhance sports infrastructure in preparation for the forthcoming South Asian Federation (SAF) Games. This decisive move was made by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), led by Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal.

The significant funding will be allocated towards major overhauls of facilities at the Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad, alongside improvements to sporting venues across other cities.

The primary objective behind this financial commitment is to elevate the quality, functionality, and operational readiness of the venues necessary for the upcoming SAF Games. This event, which will host athletes and teams from across South Asia, is slated to take place in Pakistan from April 3 to 11. The SAF Games are expected to draw considerable attention to Pakistan's sports sector, providing a platform for athletes and teams from neighboring countries to showcase their talents.

Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), expressed his satisfaction with the approved package, referring to it as a significant milestone for the country's sports sector. Wani attributed the approval to the unwavering support of the prime minister and the Planning Commission, praising their commitment to bolstering sports infrastructure.

He highlighted that the Rs. 5.7 billion infrastructure package would create a robust foundation for the successful hosting of the SAF Games, while also laying the groundwork for long-term benefits for Pakistani sports.

Wani emphasized that the IPC ministry will work in tandem with the Planning Commission and other pertinent stakeholders to ensure the seamless implementation of the proposed projects. He assured that all necessary measures would be taken to complete the upgrades on schedule. The SAF Games will see participation from various cities, each contributing to the grand spectacle that is set to unfold in Pakistan from April 3 to 11.
