Osun police arrest suspect over alleged N13m kidnap threat

The Osun State Police Command has apprehended an individual named Babangida Muhammed on September 4, 2026, following allegations of attempting to kidnap a person and demanding a ₦13 million ransom. According to a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, the arrest occurred as a result of a complaint from a man who received threatening telephone calls from someone claiming to be Muhammed.

The complainant stated that the caller threatened to abduct him and his family unless he paid the demanded sum. Following the complaint, the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, Team H, initiated an investigation and planned a raid at a meeting point in the Telemu area, along the Iwo-Ibadan Road in Osun State. On the day of the operation, the complainant reportedly went to the agreed location with the ransom money, and Muhammed arrived shortly after, intending to flee with the cash.

Police officers apprehended Muhammed before he could escape. Muhammed is currently in custody while the police investigate whether other individuals were involved in the alleged offense. He will face court proceedings upon the completion of the investigation. The police commend the officers' professionalism and urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or threats to their local police station.
