One killed, two rescued in Lagos building collapse

In the Aboru area of Lagos State, a two-storey building under demolition collapsed, resulting in one death and two rescues. The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, informed the public on Thursday that the incident took place at approximately 12:56 am at No. 42, Governors Road.

The Alpha Eagle Response Team was swiftly dispatched following a distress call. Upon arrival, responders confirmed that the building had collapsed during demolition activities, leaving workers trapped under the rubble. The LASEMA boss coordinated the rescue operation, working alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS.

Two adult males were successfully rescued and received first aid before being taken to a nearby health facility. Sadly, one adult male was found dead beneath the collapsed structure. The agency expressed condolences to the deceased's family and wished for the injured to make a quick recovery. Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized the importance of adhering to building regulations and using certified professionals for demolition and construction work.

He urged residents and developers to report unsafe building activities to the agency through designated emergency numbers. The Lagos State Government remains committed to enhancing emergency response capabilities across the state, aiming for a rapid 10-minute response time.
