Oluremi Tinubu unveils national community food bank for S’East in Anambra

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, inaugurated the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East geopolitical zone in Anambra on Thursday. The ceremony took place at the old Governor's Lodge in Amawbia, signifying a significant step in the Federal Government's nationwide food security and social welfare initiative.

The South-East zonal food bank program is crafted to support vulnerable groups, including widows, the elderly, persons with disabilities, nursing mothers, and young children, with essential food assistance and nutrition education. At the event, First Lady Tinubu highlighted that the programme is a key aspect of the Renewed Hope Initiative, which focuses on grassroots development, hunger reduction, and human capital improvement in Nigerian communities.

The initiative also underscores the Federal Government's commitment to poverty alleviation, sustainable agriculture, and enhancing social safety nets in Anambra State and the broader South-East region. State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, received the First Lady at the event. In addition to the food bank unveiling, Tinubu's visit to Anambra also included the commissioning of a modern Information and Communications Technology Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

This centre aims to equip young people with vital tech skills such as software development, data analysis, and remote-work training. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Federal Government and Anambra State government, complementing their humanitarian efforts by distributing empowerment grants, vocational tools, and agricultural inputs to thousands of beneficiaries across the state's 21 local government areas. The ceremony was attended by key government officials, dignitaries, and stakeholders.
