NPP approves proxy voting for October 3 national officers elections

The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has decided to allow proxy voting for its National Officers’ Elections taking place on October 3, marking a change from past elections which had prohibited this form of participation. This move is part of a series of modifications to the voting system, approved by both the National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council as the elections draw closer.

Frederick Opare Ansah, the Chairman of the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), explained that proxy voting would allow eligible NPP members living abroad to take part in the election. The restriction on proxy voting had previously sparked controversy during the party's presidential primary in January. The NEC and National Council have approved the new arrangements, ensuring a smooth electoral process.

Another significant update is the expansion of the electorate for the Youth Organiser position. Previously, only youth organisers, their deputies, TESCON representatives, and MPs under 40 could vote for this role. Now, all delegates under 40, including those who are not traditionally eligible, will have the right to vote in the Youth Organiser category.

This expansion has increased the number of eligible voters in this category to over 2,000, according to NOEC Chairman Opare Ansah. Additionally, the Women’s Organiser election has been broadened beyond just women organisers and their deputies, allowing all female delegates to participate in the voting process. The electoral committee has completed the nominations, vetting, and balloting procedures, with all candidates now officially listed on the ballot.

With the NEC and National Council approving these proposed electoral procedures, the NOEC is now ready to proceed with organizing the polls, confident that the elections will proceed without any issues.
