NPP approves proxy voting for October 3 national elections

The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unanimously approved proxy voting for its upcoming National Officers Elections set for October 3. This marks a departure from the party's previous stance, which had curtailed proxy voting due to concerns about potential misuse. Notably, proxy voting was barred during the NPP's presidential primary in January, sparking debate among members and delegates.

However, Frederick Opare Ansah, Chair of the National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC), announced the party's decision to permit proxy voting. This move aims to enable NPP members overseas to cast their votes, ensuring their participation in the electoral process. Additionally, the NPP has widened the Youth Organizer voting category.

Now, all delegates under 40 will participate in this category, a shift from earlier rules that restricted voting to adult constituency, regional, and national Youth Organizers, as well as MPs under 40. The amendment has expanded the youth voting bloc to over 2,000 delegates. Consequently, the October 3 elections will include a return to proxy voting and a substantially larger youth voting group as the party prepares to elect its next national officers.
