No state must be shortchanged on federal government jobs – FCC assures Nigerians

The Federal Character Commission (FCC) has firmly reaffirmed its position that no state should be deprived of its rightful share of employment opportunities under the federal character principle. FCC's Executive Chairman, Mrs Ayo Omidiran, made this call during an enlightening program in Enugu that engaged thousands of young people from across the state. The Youth Connect program, organized by Enugu State's FCC Commissioner, Hon. Peter Eze, aimed to broaden employment prospects for Enugu's youth.

Omidiran emphasized that the FCC is steadfast in its commitment not to have any state shortchanged by government agencies. She firmly stated that there would be no tolerance for diverting employment quotas from one state to another. According to Omidiran, the FCC has widened the opportunity gap and made employment prospects accessible to everyone.

She urged the youth not to be deterred by the belief that opportunities are only given to those with influential connections, stating that the FCC is working to ensure that all eligible individuals have a fair chance.

Eze debunked the notion that federal jobs are pre-allocated and traded among influential individuals. He advised the youth against paying any fees to intermediaries promising job placements and instead encouraged them to apply for available positions. Eze highlighted the vast number of federal government entities, ministries, departments, agencies, and commissions that offer employment opportunities across the country.

He further cautioned the youth against falling prey to misinformation and the fear that opportunities have already been allocated. Eze stressed that applying is the only way to secure a job and that anyone who asks for payment for a legitimate government position is engaging in an illegal act. He urged the participants to take full advantage of the FCC's initiatives and the Youth Connect program to maximize their chances of securing meaningful employment in government institutions.
