The Israeli military has destroyed underground positions of the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defence Minister Israel Katz confirmed via the X platform. Security zone consolidation in southern Lebanon was declared complete. Lebanese side initially confirmed the destruction.

A week earlier, the army had taken control of the height ridge, both above and underground. According to Israeli media reports, Hisbollah fighters had been holed up there for weeks. In the area, repeated fighting had taken place. The Israeli army shared on Telegram that in the strategically important height ridge named Ali al-Taher, the military had completely destroyed the underground infrastructure after extensive preparations.

This effectively eliminated Hezbollah's ability to use this infrastructure for planning and executing terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers. Soldiers would remain, Netanjahu and Katz stated, to prevent hostile forces from returning to the area. According to the army, the now destroyed infrastructure extended over more than two kilometers.

Inside the underground facilities, dozens of Iranian-made rockets, missiles, drones, machine guns, anti-tank missiles, hundreds of mines and explosive charges were found. Central command center and weapon storage facilities were present within the underground infrastructure, allowing terrorists to remain underground for extended periods.

The information cannot be independently verified. The height ridge Ali al-Taher near Nabatija is strategically important, offering a view of large parts of the region. The ridge is a contested area in the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, a frequent focus of Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon. It has been an important battlefield and influence zone for Hezbollah for years, making it a recurring hotspot in the Israel-Hezbollah conflict.

The Israeli army added that soldiers would continue operating in the southern Lebanon security zone to destroy terrorist infrastructure in the area. Despite an officially existing arms truce, Israel and Hezbollah regularly violate the agreement. Israel's army remains stationed in southern Lebanon and conducts nearly daily attacks.
