Ohio State-based Pete Nakos of On3 notes that while the Hail Mary touchdown that secured the victory received significant attention, Underwood's overall performance has come under scrutiny.

After the game, the Michigan offense faltered following a strong 75-yard opening drive. Sources indicate that Underwood had a productive end to fall camp, demonstrating some of his best practices as a Wolverine. However, this positive performance did not translate to his debut in the actual game. The 19-year-old is still adjusting to the new offensive system under his 2nd offensive coordinator and has just turned 19 in the middle of August.
