Massive Crowd as PDP Flags-off Campaign for Ogun 2027 Governorship Poll

On Wednesday, thousands of devoted supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and residents of Ogun State gathered at Ake Palace Pavilion in Abeokuta to witness the official kickoff of the party's campaign for the 2027 governorship election. By 10am, party members, dressed in the PDP's attire, began to amass at the venue, singing solidarity songs and waving flags adorned with images of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu, and his deputy governorship candidate, Yemi Showunmi-Kolapo.

Additional crowds, comprising residents, grassroots party members, and loyal supporters, had already converged at the PDP Secretariat in the capital city to welcome the candidates and other party leaders. As the support surged, the roads filled to capacity, with overflow crowds competing for space alongside motorists. Despite the heavy rain, the campaign train and its large crowd moved forward, with security forces struggling to manage the influx of attendees.

The candidates and their supporters braved the downpour, dancing to lively music and solidarity songs that kept them entertained throughout the procession. At the flag-off ceremony, Ladi Adebutu, in his speech titled "A Call to Liberation," called for Ogun voters to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) and elect the PDP for a new era of governance.

He promised to tackle issues such as non-performance, corruption, and mismanagement, vowing to deliver quality governance and economic development if elected. Adebutu urged Ogun residents to turn out in large numbers on February 6, 2027, to vote for the PDP, stand by their choice, and resist any attempts at intimidation. His deputy, Yemi Showunmi-Kolapo, echoed similar sentiments, assuring Ogun residents of quality leadership and a focus on various development areas, including security, local government autonomy, regional and rural development, education, healthcare, and social services.

The Ogun PDP Chairman, Abayomi Tella, encouraged voters to support Adebutu, emphasizing the potential for improved social amenities and good governance under the PDP. As the crowd swelled beyond the Pavilion's capacity, party leaders unveiled campaign messages and rallied supporters across Ogun State, with many declaring their unwavering loyalty to the PDP and their intention to vote for the candidates in the upcoming election.
