2026 NSMQ: PRESEC snatches trophy, emerges 9-time champion

In an extraordinary year for Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon), the prestigious National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) trophy was reclaimed, marking their ninth victory as champions. The journey to the top was far from easy, as PRESEC initially struggled in the opening round, dropping to the bottom of the standings. However, with remarkable resilience, the champions quickly regained their footing. By round two, they had established momentum and began eroding the gap between themselves and the competition.

A crucial turning point emerged in round three, when PRESEC emerged as the only school to score in the Problem of the Day. Accra Academy and St Augustine’s College both recorded a disappointing zero, while PRESEC managed to secure four points from the challenge. This advantage became even more pronounced during the True or False round, as PRESEC extended their lead and entered the final round with a substantial advantage over their competitors.

In the final round, PRESEC demonstrated unwavering composure, needing only two correct answers out of four riddles to claim victory. As the auditorium erupted in deafening jubilation upon the delivery of their final answer, supporters celebrated the triumphant return of the coveted trophy. This victory was especially significant for PRESEC, as their dominance had been temporarily halted by St Augustine’s College in the previous two editions.

This time, however, PRESEC successfully turned the tables on their familiar rivals on the biggest stage. With the win, PRESEC-Legon now holds nine NSMQ titles, reasserting their status as the preeminent champions ahead of the 2027 contest.
