Sultan Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah graciously welcomed the public following the launch of the 1st Piala Al-Sultan Abdullah 2026, a Liga Rakyat Pahang football competition, at Stadium Darul Makmur in Kuantan. The tournament, which began this Sunday, will determine the first-ever champion of the competition, featuring 105 teams from across the state.

The competition, which began in June, is seen as a structured platform to showcase local talent, particularly the emerging potential in regional and community levels. Organizers emphasized that the competition is not just a football match, but rather a vehicle for grassroots sports development and a means to strengthen community ties through player and supporter involvement from throughout the country.

"The aim of launching this league is to unearth and highlight new football talent at the grassroots level, while also uniting the community through sports," a statement said. With 105 teams from all over the state participating, the organizers believe there is great potential for local football development if grassroots talent is given consistent and competitive opportunities.

The final match and closing ceremony will take place on Sunday at Stadium Darul Makmur, starting at 4 p.m., with the climax determining the first-ever champion of the Piala Al-Sultan Abdullah. Apart from the final match, organizers also arranged a raffle draw for the audience, offering a Proton Saga as the main prize, alongside two motorcycles, three cellphones, and 200 footballs.

Entry to Stadium Darul Makmur is free, and football fans, particularly Pahang supporters, are invited to attend the final match and support efforts to strengthen grassroots football development in the state. The Liga Rakyat Pahang 1st Piala Sultan Abdullah was introduced as a platform for local talent development through the participation of teams from across Pahang in competitive matches at the grassroots level.
