Korean team for Strait of Hormuz assessment returns from UAE

A Korean government team responsible for evaluating the security conditions near the Strait of Hormuz arrived back in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Thursday, following a discreet mission to Abu Dhabi. The team, comprising defense and foreign ministry officials, had been in the UAE over the weekend to conduct an on-site assessment of the overall security and operational circumstances around the strait.

This included inspections of critical military bases and ports, as well as evaluations of logistical and other relevant conditions. Upon their return to Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, the team's mission was carried out with a high degree of discretion, as South Korea is currently deliberating its potential involvement in aiding the secure passage through the vital shipping lane.

This decision has been widely interpreted as Seoul leaning towards a military deployment to join U.S.-led operations in the region, which has provoked immediate protest from Iran. The deployment matter has created a diplomatic challenge.
