The United Nations envoy has issued a warning about the dangers facing shipping due to the Houthi advance in the Strait of Hormuz. Two vessels were recently attacked in the passage, with four unidentified projectiles reportedly hitting each ship, according to the UK Maritime and Trade Office. The incident occurred approximately seven kilometers west of the Omani town of Khasab.

One of the vessels experienced a fire, while the status of the other remains unclear. The source of the attack remains uncertain. Iran has been blocking shipping through the strategically important waterway in its conflict with the United States, using threats and attacks on vessels. However, the U.S. military has continued to escort ships safely through the passage off the Omani coast.

Iran has reportedly temporarily suspended a ten percent freight fee for foreign vessels carrying oil, gas, and liquid petroleum products, according to a media report. This measure aims to reduce transportation costs and encourage foreign shipping companies to continue transporting goods to and from Iran. The U.S. has long blocked Iranian oil exports via sea due to its war against the Islamic Republic.
