João Pedro returns to Brazil squad as Ancelotti begins rebuild after World Cup

Brazil has initiated a rebuilding process following their disappointing performance in the 2026 World Cup. Carlo Ancelotti has recalled Chelsea striker João Pedro and Barcelona captain Raphinha for friendlies against Australia and India. The 2026/27 football season features an extended "XL" period from September 21 to October 6, 2026, allowing national teams to play up to four matches, unlike the usual two.

Raphinha was sidelined during the World Cup due to a hamstring injury, while João Pedro was not part of the tournament squad. The renewed Brazil squad, announced by the Brazilian Football Confederation, is younger compared to the previous one, with players like Vinicius Junior, Endrick, Estêvão, Rayan, Pedro, and Samuel Lino included. Ancelotti aims to assess emerging talents during this international break, which includes friendlies against Australia and India.

Ancelotti stated that these friendlies will serve as a starting point for a new cycle, projecting the National Team towards future goals like the 2028 Copa América and 2030 World Cup. The squad also features players like Gabriel Magalhães, Marquinhos, and Bruno Guimarães, alongside eight players who were not part of the World Cup group. Ancelotti expressed his intention to integrate young players into the national team during these friendlies, marking the beginning of a new era for Brazilian football.
