Two ships were recently attacked in the Strait of Hormuz. A captain observed four unidentified projectiles hit both vessels, reported the UK maritime security agency. The incident occurred about seven kilometers west of the Omani town of Khasab. One ship reportedly caught fire, while the status of the other remains unclear. Responsibility for the attacks remains uncertain.

Iran has blocked traffic through the strategic waterway in its conflict with the US through threats and attacks on ships. However, US military escorts have successfully guided ships through the passage between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Iran temporarily suspended a ten percent freight charge for foreign ships carrying oil, gas, and liquid oil products, according to a media report.

The halakhic Iranian news agency Fars said the suspension aims to lower transport costs and encourage foreign shipping companies to continue transporting goods to or from Iran. The US has been blocking Iranian oil exports by sea for some time as part of its war against the Islamic Republic.
