iOS 27 Apple Health App Redesign: Every New Feature Coming in 2026

Apple is set to overhaul the Health app on iPhone and iPad with a host of new features coming in 2026. The update was announced at the recent iPhone event, which comes after Apple revamped the sensors in the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. There are three main improvements in the Health Sensing System: a larger electrode surface area for better skin contact during ECG readings, redesigned photodiodes arranged in a ring for more efficient light capture, and power-efficient green LEDs for continuous heart rate data.

The new watches take heart rate measurements every five seconds throughout the day, and more frequently measure heart rate variability (HRV). The data is then sent to the Health app on iPhone.

Apple claims the new Apple Watch has the most accurate heart rate sensing in a head-to-head study against other wearables. The Health app will now use Apple Intelligence to turn the collected data and metrics into personalized guidance. Several new sections will be added to the Health app, including Insights, Personal Guidance, Readiness, Fitness, Longevity, and Health Age.

The Insights tab will provide an Apple Intelligence-generated summary of timely information like sleep metrics or VO2 max peaks, while Personal Guidance will offer relevant suggestions based on a user's data. Readiness will give a 0-10 score with recommendations on activity level, and Fitness will track daily activity and update in real-time.

Longevity will assess overall health across various categories, and Health Age will compare health metrics to actual age using data from the Apple Watch and iPhone. Lab results can be uploaded manually or synced through medical records, with users able to purchase a comprehensive bloodwork panel from Quest for $119. Cycle Tracking will get perimenopause and menopause support. The new Health app requires an Apple Intelligence-capable iPhone and is set to launch in late 2026.
