Govt Orders Faster Passport Verification For Expats

Federal Minister for Law and Justice Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar has instructed government agencies to expedite the verification of passports and crucial documents for expatriate Pakistanis. At a meeting on Wednesday, Tarar presided over discussions involving officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Passport Department, among other relevant bodies.

He emphasized that overseas Pakistanis are a valuable national resource and stressed the necessity of enhancing current procedures to facilitate their access to services. Tarar directed officials to create an integrated system for the prompt verification of travel documents and other important records, and to simplify the verification process through an electronic system at the Ministry of Interior.

He further ordered a reduction in human interaction during the verification process as much as feasible. The minister also proposed a one-window verification portal to streamline the procedure. Tarar instructed authorities to draft proposals for amendments to rules and regulations to further aid overseas Pakistanis. He requested relevant institutions to present a clear plan and procedure at the subsequent meeting.
