Ghana’s acclaimed Christian – Muslim unity bigger than Owusu Bempah’s hatred and bigotry – Muslim Forum for Peace and Unity

The Ghana Muslim Forum for Peace and Unity has vehemently denounced the founder and head of the Glorious Word Power Ministry International, Rev. Isaac Owusu Bempah, for his recent provocative comments targeting former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. In a press release issued on September 10, 2026, the forum expressed deep disappointment over Owusu Bempah's remarks made during a church service on September 6, 2026.

These comments, according to the forum, threatened Dr. Bawumia's political career and accused him and the Nasara Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of plotting against his church.

The forum's statement underscores that this recent outburst is a continuation of a pattern of hostility that undermines the peace and unity that Ghana is renowned for. It points out that Ghana has long been a model of religious tolerance, with Christians and Muslims coexisting, marrying, working together, and contributing to national development.

The release argues that Dr. Bawumia's political ascent contradicts Rev. Owusu Bempah's religious ideals, adding that Dr. Bawumia was elected as the NPP presidential candidate due to his competence, not his religion. The majority of NPP delegates, who are predominantly Christians, voted overwhelmingly for him based on his credentials.

The forum dismisses Owusu Bempah's claim that Dr. Bawumia cannot become president without his approval as a hollow and blasphemous threat, emphasizing that sovereignty is solely in the hands of God. The group, quoting from the Qur'an 3:26, Psalm 75:6-7, and Daniel 2:21, maintains that promotion and kingship come from God, not man. It urges Dr. Bawumia to remain composed and ignore what it describes as Owusu Bempah's tantrums, urging him to continue advocating for diversity and interfaith dialogue.

The forum firmly states that Ghana's Christian-Muslim unity surpasses Owusu Bempah's bitterness and that no extremist will be permitted to divide the nation.
