Gauff saves match points to set up Rybakina semi-final

Coco Gauff battled back from a set down to defeat Mirra Andreeva, setting up a US Open semi-final clash with world number one Elena Rybakina. The match lasted 26 minutes in the first set, with Gauff twice trailing from a break point in a second set that was largely scrappy. Gauff, aided by a partisan crowd, forced a decisive tie-break.

Her resilience impressed spectators, as she saved two match points and went on to win 2-6 7-6 (9-7) 6-2. Gauff's victory marked her second back-to-back Grand Slam semi-final, and her first in New York since claiming the title in 2023. It was the first time that the top four seeds had reached the semi-finals at a major since Wimbledon in 2009.
