‘Experts examine state of provincial governance, democratic discourse’

LAHORE – Legal and political experts convened on Wednesday to analyze the condition of provincial governance and democratic discourse in Pakistan. Fikr-o-Amal, in partnership with Naya, organized a panel discussion at the South Asian Free Media Association auditorium. The event attracted civic activists, legal experts, students, and journalists, who listened to Barrister Ali Zafar and political analyst Amar Rashid speak about the obstacles facing provincial bodies.

Moderated by Huma Ejaz Zaman, the discussion highlighted the essential nature of robust provincial institutions, legislative efficacy, and the necessity for orderly democratic debate in Pakistan’s present political climate. Barrister Ali Zafar emphasized the constitutional aspects of provincial independence, asserting that efficient governance hinges on empowering local leadership and fortifying legislative structures.

In contrast, Amar Rashid delved into the social and political aspects of public dialogue, advocating for broader political involvement and governance guided by policies.

Following the panel, an interactive question-and-answer segment allowed attendees to pose inquiries on provincial administration, devolution, and policy implementation. Fikr-o-Amal and Naya, the event organizers, pledged their dedication to organizing additional public forums to narrow the gap between policy deliberations and public participation.
