Deshaun Watson seems to be planning for life after the Cleveland Browns

Deshaun Watson is set to start for the Cleveland Browns in their upcoming NFL game, marking his first regular-season appearance since October 2024. This is the final year of Watson's five-year, $230 million contract with the Browns, which he signed in March 2022. Watson has played 19 games under this contract, dealing with injuries including a shoulder injury, a torn Achilles, and another tear requiring surgery in January 2025, resulting in a full season off.

Speaking to reporters after a recent practice, Watson emphasized the importance of this game, saying it's his chance to demonstrate he can still play at a high level in the league. He has a record of 9-10 as the Browns' starter, with a 80.7 passer rating, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. The contract expires after this season, but the Browns have already absorbed a significant amount of the money in signing bonuses and voided years through restructures, amounting to over $86 million in dead cap space for the 2027 season.

Despite the controversy surrounding his decision to start, Watson remains focused on the present, acknowledging the opportunity he has to showcase his abilities to all 32 teams in the league.
