Delhi beefs up security for BRICS Summit

Delhi Police has bolstered security measures for the forthcoming BRICS Summit, with approximately 15,000 personnel and 200 paramilitary companies set to be deployed throughout the national capital, according to a senior police officer. Over 500 CCTV cameras, including high-resolution and specialized surveillance equipment, will be installed to monitor key areas continuously.

Manish Kumar Agrawal, Special Commissioner of Police (Protective/Security Division), stated that these arrangements aim to guarantee maximum security for visiting dignitaries while causing minimal disruption to the public. Agrawal emphasized close coordination with multiple agencies for the summit, including extensive route surveys.

The Delhi Police has implemented a multi-layered security system, featuring enhanced access control, vigilance, and robust security at Bharat Mandapam, the summit's primary venue. Coordination meetings with neighboring states have been held to ensure seamless arrangements during the delegation's movements. Intelligence inputs will be shared among relevant agencies.

While acknowledging the need for security, the police have also prioritized minimizing inconvenience to residents, with traffic advisories and temporary restrictions planned. The BRICS Summit, scheduled for September 12-13, will see traffic restrictions beginning from September 10, expected to last until around September 14. Technology-driven surveillance is integrated into the security plan, complemented by physical deployment, access control, intelligence gathering, traffic management, and emergency response.

Delhi Police, with experience in managing major international events like the G20 Summit, has conducted extensive coordination exercises among various government agencies involved in the summit.
