Danshagamu: Kano police arrest two over alleged murder of govt critic

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the alleged murder of Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, a vocal government critic. Danshagamu, who lived in Gaida Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area, was killed in his home on September 8, 2026. According to the Police Command's spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on September 8, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., the Command received a distress call from the Commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group, reporting that assailants had forcibly entered Danshagamu's residence and attacked him with sharp objects.

Kiyawa stated that Kumbotso Police Division officers responded immediately to the scene, transporting the victim to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Command's DPO, in collaboration with tactical units and community stakeholders, launched an intelligence-led operation resulting in the arrest of the two suspects.

They are currently in police custody, undergoing interrogation, while authorities intensify efforts to apprehend any additional persons connected to the crime. Forensic procedures are underway to uncover the full circumstances and motives behind the attack. Kano's Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, expressed his concern over the incident and extended condolences to Danshagamu's family, assuring the public that those responsible for violent crimes would be identified, arrested, and prosecuted according to law.

CP Bakori credited the Gaida Vigilante Group for the timely information that enabled the swift police response, underscoring the value of community policing in preventing crime. The Command emphasized that they remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting lives and property, vowing to pursue justice until its completion. Additionally, extra patrols and intelligence-gathering operations have been deployed to Gaida and surrounding areas to maintain law and order and prevent any further deterioration of peace.
